DSCW hosts ‘Skill Development Workshop’ with National Education Trust of India

Ferozepur, November 4, 2024: The Home Science, Nutrition and Food Science, Fashion Designing departments of Dev Samaj College for Women (DSCW) along with the Entrepreneurial Development Cell, organized a skill development workshop on chocolate and candle making in collaboration with the National Education Trust of India.
The workshop aimed to foster creativity, skill development, and entrepreneurial spirit among participants. It was divided into two main segments: chocolate making and candle making. Each segment included theoretical background, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
Resource persons, former student Manpreet Kaur and Dr. Vandana, Head of the Home Science Department, began by discussing various types of chocolates (dark, milk, white) and the key ingredients involved in chocolate production. Participants learned the art of tempering chocolate to achieve excellent taste and texture while experimenting with molds to create different shapes and designs.
The candle-making segment introduced participants to various types of wax (paraffin, soy, beeswax) and their characteristics. Khushvinder Gill from the Fashion Designing Department highlighted the importance of wick, fragrance, and color in candle production. Participants safely melted wax and created their own candles while considering branding and packaging for potential sales.
Dr. Sangeeta, Principal expressed gratitude to all contributors for their unwavering support. She noted that participants gained valuable skills in both chocolate and candle making, with many showing enthusiasm about transforming these skills into small business ventures. Chairman Shrimaan Nirmal Singh Dhillon extended his best wishes for the success of this initiative.
