Chandigarh, November 16, 2024: The Kirti Kisan Forum, an organization of former IAS, IPS, Army officers, prominent academicians, and social activists has urged the Punjab Government to declare November 19 as “ Farmers Fateh Divas”.
Giving into the yearlong democratic, peaceful agitation launched by farmers on the Singu and Tikri borders of Delhi, three years ago, on November 19, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had repealed the three farm laws, which were described as black laws by farmers from across the country.
The agitation was spearheaded by Sanyukat Kisan Morcha( SKM), a body of farmer unions from across the country, to get the 3 farm laws revoked. It has got wide spread support not only from various non-farmer organisations from within the country but also from abroad. Farmer unions from Punjab played a pivotal role in this “ andolan”.
Passing three resolutions, the KKF has stated that this historic farmers' movement created a democratic, peaceful and secular culture around the world and laid new paths for democratic and peaceful movements across the globe. This movement was highly appreciated by the farmers' well-wishers from Asia, Europe, America and African countries. To make the unprecedented victory registered by farmers, by making the Central Government to repeal the three laws related to agriculture, memorable, historic and inspiring forever, the Punjab Government should declare November 19 as a “Kisan Fateh Divas”.
The martyrdoms of 700 farmers during this agitation will prove to be a guide for the future struggle of farmers across the country. A “Fateh Smarak” (Memorial) in memory of these farmers should be constructed at the Sambhu border. The Punjab Government should immediately contact the Haryana and Delhi Governments in this regard. All the members of the forum appealed to all the working farmers and people associated with agriculture of Punjab and North India to celebrate Fateh Diwas on November 19.
Owing to the withdrawal of these three laws, the morale of farmers in Asia, Europe, and America has got tremendously boosted and put breaks on the corporatization of agriculture.
