Focus on Road Safety: DC calls for strict enforcement of traffic rules, identification of Black Spots
Ferozepur, January 17, 2025: To curb road accidents, continuous vehicle checking, identification of black spots, and strict enforcement of traffic rules have been prioritized. These directives were issued by Deputy Commissioner, Deepshikha Sharma during a District Road Safety Committee meeting held as part of the National Road Safety Month campaign.
DC highlighted that the National Road Safety Month, observed from January 1 to 31, 2025, includes awareness programs such as seminars in schools and colleges, free check-up camps for drivers, and public awareness rallies. She emphasized the ongoing inspection of vehicles and ten challans issued for violations, including several recent fines imposed on school buses for not adhering to safety norms.
To ensure students' safety, the DC instructed strict implementation of the Safe School Vehicle Policy, mandating compliance with all safety standards for vehicles transporting students. Police and RTA departments were directed to conduct checks on unauthorized parking, speeding, and overloaded vehicles.
Key measures discussed included the installation of safety buttons in buses for women's safety, Setting up help desks at bus stands, Regular identification and rectification of black spots with signage, reflectors, and lighting, particularly during foggy weather to prevent accidents, Mandatory installation of reflectors on vehicles to enhance visibility, and Maintenance of road markings for better navigation.
The DC also urged consistent e-challans for traffic violations and called for collaborative efforts with NGOs, police, and RTA officials to conduct road safety rallies and seminars in schools, markets, and public places.
She stressed that proper adherence to traffic rules, combined with public cooperation, is critical for reducing road mishaps. The importance of clearing roadside vegetation to improve the visibility of white road markings and ensuring the availability of ambulances and drivers at toll plazas for immediate assistance during accidents was reiterated.
