Ludhiana (Punjab), March 1, 2025: The first prefabricated bridge of the four bridges over the Sidhwan Canal is en route from Kotkapura to Ludhiana. Another shipment for the second bridge is expected to arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday.
The steel structures for both bridges will be assembled at their respective sites along the canal, bringing the long-pending bridge project closer to completion.
Providing this update on Saturday, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, stated that the bridges are being manufactured by New Life Infra (Kotkapura, Punjab) and Durga Engineering (Yamuna Nagar, Haryana).
About a week ago, Arora dispatched his team along with NHAI personnel to inspect the manufacturing facilities and ensure steady progress. The installation of each bridge is expected to take at least one month.
This project was initiated due to Arora’s persistent efforts with NHAI. After multiple appeals, NHAI approved the proposal, acknowledging the urgent need to ease traffic congestion. Ludhiana residents had long demanded these bridges, recognizing them as a crucial solution to the city's increasing traffic woes.
Arora expressed confidence that once completed, the bridges would significantly improve traffic flow in South City, where rapid commercial growth—including hotels, restaurants, and residential complexes—has led to congestion.
He reiterated that the completion of these four bridges will transform vehicular movement in the area. He expects all four bridges to be operational by the end of April or early May.
