Chandigarh, March 3, 2025:The meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and representatives of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has been started at Punjab Bhawan here.
The discussion will be held between the farmers' leaders including Joginder Singh Uhrahan and Balbir Singh Rajewal and the state government just two days before the SKM's planned week-long protest in Chandigarh, set to begin on March 5.
The SKM has outlined several demands, including:
Rejection of the Centre's draft National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing.
A legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) based on the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations.
Implementation of Punjab's agricultural policy.
State procurement of six crops—such as basmati, maize, moong, and potato—at MSP.
Enactment of a law for debt settlement.
Ensuring canal water supply to all farms.
Clearing of sugarcane arrears.
Halting "forcible" land acquisition for Bharatmala projects.
The outcome of today's meeting is anticipated to influence the SKM's decision regarding their upcoming protest activities.
