Punjab's women helpline 181 becomes a lifeline, assisting thousands every month

Chandigarh, March 3, 2025: The Women Helpline 181, launched by the Department of Social Security, Women, and Child Development, Punjab, has become a crucial resource for women in distress, offering round-the-clock assistance to victims of violence, harassment, and emergencies.
Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security, Women, and Child Development, highlighted the Punjab government’s commitment to women’s welfare under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership. She emphasized that nearly 150 calls are received daily, with 4,000 to 5,000 women benefiting from the helpline each month.
The helpline provides swift intervention through One Stop Centers and other government agencies across Punjab, ensuring immediate support for women in need. Dr. Kaur also announced plans to expand the helpline’s reach by integrating it with newly established District Hubs for Women’s Empowerment.
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to ensuring women’s safety and well-being, she urged all women in distress to reach out to 181 for prompt assistance, reinforcing that help is always just a call away.
