Minister Bhullar reviews 'War Against Drugs' initiative, strengthens Anti-Drug Campaign in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, March 6, 2025: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has launched the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign to safeguard the state's youth from the drug menace. Transport and Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, a member of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Drugs, chaired a meeting with senior civil and police officials in Ferozepur to review the campaign's progress.
Emphasizing public participation, Minister Bhullar directed officials to involve people actively in the campaign. He urged village panchayats to pass resolutions in Gram Sabhas against providing bail sureties for drug traffickers. He appealed to sarpanches and nambardars to socially boycott drug peddlers and avoid supporting their bail applications.
To curb cross-border drug smuggling, the minister announced that police in border districts would be equipped with anti-drone technology. He instructed police to take immediate legal action against drug traffickers and confiscate properties acquired through the drug trade.
Minister Bhullar stressed organizing activities to promote education, sports, cultural events, and healthy lifestyles among youth. He also proposed issuing arms licenses to sarpanches for their personal security.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma assured full cooperation from the district administration, reiterating their commitment to making Ferozepur a drug-free district within the stipulated timeframe.
SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu reported that in the past six days, police registered 23 FIRs, arrested 31 accused, and seized 7.5 kg of heroin, 4070 drug tablets, one drone, and one pistol. Property confiscation proceedings were also underway against drug traffickers.
The minister also visited the War Room set up by the district administration to monitor the campaign’s progress and appreciated the initiative.
On this occasion, young volunteers spreading drug awareness in border villages were honoured with anti-drug slogan T-shirts. The BSF has also initiated a pre-recruitment training program to empower border youth and keep them away from drugs.
