Chandigarh, March 13, 2025: Haryana Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa announced that every household in the state’s villages and hamlets now has access to drinking water through domestic tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Responding to a question during the Haryana Legislative Assembly Budget Session, Minister Gangwa highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019 with the vision of providing tap water to every household.
Following this, a household survey conducted in 2019-20 identified 30.41 lakh homes without water connections. These households have now been covered under JJM as of April 6, 2022, at a total cost of ₹37.89 crore.
The minister assured that any newly identified houses requiring connections will be covered in the next phase of the scheme, pending approval for expansion.
Additionally, Minister Gangwa clarified that the Public Health Engineering Department does not use or approve PVC pipes for water supply projects, ensuring quality and durability in the state’s drinking water infrastructure.
With this achievement, Haryana has successfully ensured universal access to clean drinking water, marking a significant milestone in rural development and public health.
