Kapurthala (Punjab), March 15, 2025 – The mortal remains of 23-year-old Harmanjot Singh, a resident of Lakhan Ke Padda (Kapurthala), who passed away under mysterious circumstances in Bradford, England, a month ago, were finally brought back to India today.
His family has alleged foul play and accused his employer in England of being responsible for his death.
With the intervention of Punjab Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Harmanjot’s body was flown to Rajasansi Airport, where the Minister personally received it before handing it over to the grieving family.
Later in the afternoon, his last rites were performed in his native village, following religious traditions.
Despite Harmanjot having a three-year insurance policy, it was the village’s NRI community that bore the cost of repatriation, spending £4,800 (approx. ₹5 lakh) to bring his body home.
Village Panchayat member Jaswant Virli expressed sorrow over the tragic loss and the financial burden on the community, raising concerns over the challenges faced by Punjabi youth working abroad.
