Chandigarh, March 17, 2025: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has issued a clarion call for unity, urging all estranged leaders to return to the party in accordance with the Sandesh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj.
Addressing the media after a Parliamentary Board meeting, SAD Working President Balwinder Singh Bhundar emphasized the need for Panthic unity, stating, “History has shown that the Sikh community prospers when united. I appeal to all leaders, including members of the five-member committee, to uphold the directive of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and work towards strengthening Panthic forces.”

Bhundar also renewed his appeal to former members to participate in the party’s membership drive, urging them to take membership slips and elect delegates of their choice as part of the organizational elections.
Additionally, he confirmed that SAD would participate in the All-Party meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on March 22 to discuss the delimitation exercise.
Raising concerns over its impact, Bhundar stated, “This process threatens federalism, as states that effectively implemented family planning programs, like Punjab and Haryana, will see minimal seat increases, while states like Uttar Pradesh could gain up to 150 Lok Sabha seats.” The SAD delegation will also present its stance on the New Education Policy (NEP), citing its adverse effects on regional languages.
The Parliamentary Board further reviewed SAD’s membership drive, extending the deadline for submission of membership slips to March 25. The meeting also welcomed the Shiromani Committee’s decision to reject the resignation of Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami as its President and urged him to continue leading.
Additionally, the SAD meeting condemned recent conspiracies aimed at creating divisions in Punjab, including the attack on a statue of B.R. Ambedkar, a temple bombing in Amritsar, and violence against migrants in Ludhiana.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining communal harmony and safeguarding Punjab’s interests.
