Chandigarh’s backlane beautification drive enhances cleanliness, urban aesthetics

Chandigarh, March 17, 2025: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has embarked on a major backlane beautification project, transforming 566 backlanes spanning 126 km to improve cleanliness, aesthetics, and the overall urban environment.
Following directives from Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the B&R wing has launched a special campaign to clean and upgrade these paved concrete and cement pathways.
The initiative includes deep cleaning, repair of damaged areas, improved lighting, and the implementation of the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principles to enhance sustainability.
The Commissioner highlighted that pruning overgrown trees, beautification efforts, and environmental improvements are integral to the project, reinforcing the civic body's commitment to maintaining cleanliness and improving residents' quality of life.
This initiative aims to create safer, cleaner, and more visually appealing community spaces across Chandigarh.
