Chandigarh, March 24, 2025 – On the second day of the Punjab Assembly session, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar complained to Speaker Kultar Sandhwan, alleging that treasury bench legislators were given less time to speak compared to opposition members.
Bhullar pointed out that the Speaker often allowed opposition MLAs ample time to present their views, while ruling party members were not given enough opportunities to express themselves.
Humorously, he remarked, "Many of our MLAs return without getting a chance to speak. The husbands of our women MLAs and the wives of our male MLAs eagerly wait at home, watching TV, wondering when it will be their turn to speak."
He further added, "You often pacify us, but you don't give us time to speak. Please give us a fair chance too."
Responding to the complaint, Speaker Sandhwan clarified, "Any minister can raise their hand and speak whenever they wish. They are never stopped from voicing their views."
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong opposition, stating, "A robust opposition is crucial for a healthy democracy, which is why they are given ample opportunity to speak."
