Solemn Trek of Tribute : 23-year-old Neeshu walks 508 km from Meerut to Hussainiwala to honour national martyrs
Ferozepur/Hussainiwala, March 24, 2025: On Shaheedi Divas, a day commemorating the sacrifices of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, 23-year-old Neeshu Gulzar from Gadh Soma village in Meerut undertook an extraordinary journey of her “Dream to Dedication”. She walked a staggering 508 kilometers over six days to pay her heartfelt tribute at the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala.
Driven by a childhood dream inspired by a 2006 school lesson about the trio's sacrifices, Neeshu overcame years of family restrictions to embark on this mission. Encouraged by friends who were unaware that Punjab housed a memorial dedicated to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, she decided to fulfill her long-cherished wish and set out alone. With only Rs. 8,000 in her possession, she walked approximately 17 hours a day to reach her destination.
Upon reaching Hussainiwala on March 23, the martyrdom anniversary of the revolutionaries, Neeshu expressed profound satisfaction. She laid flowers at the Samadhi of the martyrs and reflected on the historical significance of the site, where Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev's last rites were performed secretly under British surveillance.
The B. R. S. Memorial Society honored Neeshu for her determination and dedication, acknowledging the impact of her act of tribute. She shared that experiencing the memorial was a deeply emotional moment, transforming the dreams she'd nurtured into a tangible reality.
Neeshu also emphasized the importance of today's youth recognizing the sacrifices made by the martyrs, urging them to channel their energy towards the nation's progress. Her remarkable journey is a stirring reminder of how individual dedication can preserve and honor collective history.
