New Delhi, April 7, 2025 — Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Monday announced a ₹50 increase in the price of LPG cylinders.
The revised price will now be ₹550 for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and ₹853 for regular consumers, up from the earlier ₹500 and ₹803 respectively. Speaking on the hike, Puri clarified that this is a temporary measure and will be reviewed every 2–3 weeks.
"This is a step which we will review as we go along. We review these every 2-3 weeks," said Puri.
He also addressed concerns about a recent excise duty increase, assuring the public that it will not affect the prices of petrol and diesel for consumers.
"That excise increase is intended to compensate the oil marketing companies for ₹43,000 crore that they have incurred as a loss on the gas part of it," Puri added.
The minister’s remarks come amid rising global energy prices and ongoing efforts by the government to balance fiscal pressure with consumer impact.
