Drone, Pistol recovered amid Indo-Pak tensions; unidentified person booked under Arms and Aircraft Acts
Ferozepur, May 2025: Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, an unidentified individual has been booked under the Arms Act and Aircraft Act following the recovery of a drone and a pistol allegedly dropped from across the border.
The seizure was made on May 10—the final day of the brief conflict that erupted on May 7 after the Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 civilians were killed when attackers allegedly targeted individuals based on their community identity. The cross-border hostilities, which raised alarm across the region, have now ended following the intervention of international powers who brokered a ceasefire under strict conditions to de-escalate the situation.
During routine patrolling in the border region near Ganesh Wala Jhuge, Ferozepur police recovered a DJI Air-3 drone and a pistol with a magazine, though notably without a barrel. Initial investigations suggest the drone and weapon were sent from the Pakistani side, and arranged to be received by an Indian handler, whose identity remains unknown.
A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station, and Inspector Jagtar Singh, the Investigating Officer, confirmed that further inquiry is underway to identify the local links and uncover the network behind the cross-border drop.
The recovery raises serious concerns about ongoing attempts to smuggle arms into Indian territory, even during ceasefire agreements, and points to continued efforts to disrupt peace in the border areas.
