Arvind Kejriwal on Majithia Liqour tragedy: “No One Will Be Spared, No Matter How Powerful”

Amritsar (Punjab), May 13, 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has issued a stern statement following the tragic deaths of 14 people due to the consumption of spurious liquor in Majitha, Punjab.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives, Kejriwal assured that those responsible—regardless of their power, position, or influence—will face the harshest punishment.
“Several people have died in Majitha after consuming poisonous liquor. No matter how powerful or well-connected the culprits are, they will not be spared. They will be given the strictest possible punishment,” Kejriwal declared.
He also offered condolences to the bereaved families, saying, “May God give strength to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. May the departed souls rest in peace.”
Background of the Incident
The deaths occurred across five villages in the Majitha block of Amritsar district on the night of May 12. Fourteen people have died, and six others are hospitalized in critical condition.
Punjab Police have arrested the main accused, believed to be the kingpin behind the illegal liquor operation, along with four others involved in distribution.The administration has launched a door-to-door medical campaign in affected villages to identify and treat anyone who may have consumed the illicit liquor.
An FIR has been registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 61A of the Excise Act, with investigations ongoing.
