Chandigarh, June 1, 2025 – The Chandigarh Press Club on Sunday hosted the launch of The Ghadar Movement, the latest book by author and veterinary officer Rana Preet Gill.
The book, Gill's fifth, highlights the little-known but significant revolutionary movement by Indian immigrants against British colonial rule in the early 20th century.
The Ghadar Movement, launched in 1913 by Indians in the United States, aimed to ignite a mutiny within the British-Indian Army by smuggling arms into India. Although the attempt did not succeed, it left a lasting legacy in India's freedom struggle.
The movement was led by key figures such as Lala Har Dayal and Kartar Singh Sarabha, whose courage inspired future revolutionaries, including Bhagat Singh.

The book launch was attended by Rahul Bhandari, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, along with noted historians Harish Puri and Chaman Lal.
Both scholars praised Gill's effort to bring attention to a critical yet often overlooked chapter in India's revolutionary history.
"This book is my tribute to the forgotten heroes who dared to dream of a free India from foreign soil," Gill said. "Their courage and sacrifice deserve to be remembered. The Ghadarites may have failed in their mission, but they lit a spark that inspired generations."
Gill, known for her novels and journalistic work, blends research with narrative storytelling in the book, making The Ghadar Movement accessible and compelling for both history enthusiasts and general readers.
