Ludhiana Shock: Lizard found in 7-year-old boy’s ice cream

Ludhiana (Punjab), June 8, 2025: A disturbing case of food contamination has surfaced in Ludhiana’s Sundar Nagar locality of Gayaspura, where a lizard was found inside a Choco Bar Kulfi purchased by a 7-year-old boy from a local street vendor. The incident has sparked outrage in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the boy had bought two kulfis for Rs 20 from a vendor. While eating, he noticed something unusual in the bowl and alerted his grandmother—only to discover that it was a lizard embedded in the ice cream.
Panicked and angry, local residents quickly confronted and caught the ice cream vendor, who tried to defend himself by claiming that the ice cream came pre-packaged from the manufacturer.
Despite this claim, the vendor allegedly continued selling ice cream, prompting locals to stop him once again and escalate the matter.The child was rushed to a private hospital as a precautionary measure. Thankfully, doctors confirmed that his condition remains stable.
Health Department officials were informed immediately. The District Health Officer (DHO) confirmed that samples of the ice cream will be collected and sent for laboratory testing.
Authorities have also initiated an investigation to determine whether the contamination occurred during manufacturing, storage, or distribution.Meanwhile, a formal complaint has been filed, and the ice cream cart has been confiscated and deposited at Daba police station for further action.
The incident has raised serious concerns about food safety and hygiene, especially involving street vendors and packaged frozen products.
