New Delhi, June 11, 2025: The 12th National Gatka (Men & Women) Championship, organized by the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), is set to take place at New Delhi’s iconic Talkatora Indoor Stadium from June 12 to 14, 2025.
The prestigious three-day martial arts event will bring together over 500 boys and girls representing 16 states, who will compete in individual and team events in Gatka Soti and Farri-Soti categories.
Highlighting the event’s significance, NGAI President and State Awardee Harjeet Singh Grewal stated that the tournament is part of a larger effort to preserve, promote, and professionalize the traditional Sikh martial art of Gatka. “Our long-term ‘Vision Document–2030’ aims to transform Gatka into an internationally recognized sport and make it Olympic-ready,” he said. This includes enhancing technical standards, encouraging gender equality with mixed combat formats, and integrating digital tournament management systems.
NGAI Acting President Sukhchain Singh Kalsani emphasized the association’s dedication to offering competitive platforms for youth. “This championship is not just a competition—it’s a cultural celebration and a step forward in taking Gatka to national and global prominence,” he remarked.
NGAI General Secretary Harjinder Kumar and Finance Secretary Baljit Singh Saini shared that the opening ceremony will be held on June 12, with the concluding ceremony on June 14 recognizing outstanding athletes with medals, trophies, and certificates.
The NGAI has extended an open invitation to sports lovers, cultural supporters, and the general public to attend the event and cheer for India’s rising Gatka stars.
