Vigilance Bureau Nabs ASI for Accepting ₹2,000 Bribe in Kapurthala
Chandigarh, June 12, 2025 – Continuing its crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Baldev Singh, posted at Sultanpur Lodhi police station in Kapurthala district, for accepting a bribe of ₹2,000.
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made following a complaint submitted by a Kapurthala resident via the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant alleged that ASI Baldev Singh initially demanded ₹10,000 in exchange for allowing him to join a police investigation after securing anticipatory bail from the court. The bribe demand was later reduced to ₹5,000, but the ASI ultimately accepted ₹2,000 following repeated pleas from the complainant.
The Vigilance Bureau conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter, during which the allegations were found to be credible. Consequently, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range.
The spokesperson added that further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
