New Delhi, June 12, 2025 – Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who lost his life in a tragic plane crash near Ahmedabad earlier today.
Vijay Rupani, aged 68, served as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021, and was presently the BJP in-charge for Punjab and Chandigarh. He was among the passengers aboard Air India Flight AI-171, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to London. The accident claimed the lives of all 242 people on board, including the entire crew.
Mourning his death, MP Satnam Singh Sandhu said Rupani made invaluable contributions to Gujarat’s development and was a true statesman who prioritized infrastructure growth, social welfare, and inclusive progress.
“Though he served as BJP’s Punjab in-charge for less than three years, Rupani displayed a deep understanding of Punjab’s core issues and played a vital role in raising them effectively with the central government,” Sandhu noted.
He further said that Gujarat made significant strides under Rupani’s leadership and that his dedication to public welfare, strong leadership, and legacy of service would continue to inspire future generations.
Extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Sandhu remarked, “The nation has lost a dedicated and hardworking leader today.”
