Railway conducts mock drill to assess emergency preparedness
Ferozepur, June 14, 2025: In the midnight hours of June 13, a mock drill was conducted by the Ferozepur Division of Northern Railway under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sanjay Sahu and the leadership of Senior Divisional Safety Officer Rohit Verma. The primary objective of the drill was to evaluate the preparedness and swift response of railway staff during emergency situations such as train accidents, fire outbreaks, or other disasters.
The mock drill was carried out on the Ferozepur-Bathinda rail section between Gyani Jail Singh Sandhwan and Faridkot at level crossing gate number C-28. In the simulated scenario, a freight train approaching from Bathinda derailed near the crossing, with two wagons jumping off the tracks and crashing into the gate cabin, resulting in injuries to individuals present at the site.
To manage the situation, two emergency relief trains — ARME (Accident Relief Medical Equipment) and ART (Accident Relief Train) — were dispatched from Ferozepur. The quick and efficient response by railway personnel confirmed that the incident was a part of a pre-planned mock drill.
DRM Sanjay Sahu emphasized that the key purpose of such drills is to ensure that railway staff remain physically and mentally prepared to handle any crisis. Their responsibilities during such situations include timely communication with authorities, alerting medical and paramedical teams, providing first aid to the injured, and carrying out coordinated relief operations.
