Drug Smuggling under cover of farmer identity – 5 arrested with 45,000 intoxicating capsules

Ferozepur, June 2025: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Ferozepur police arrested five individuals and seized 45,000 banned intoxicating capsules in Mamdot. The suspects, identified as Manpreet Singh, Raman Singh, Kulwant Singh, Mandeep Kumar, and Gurwinder Singh, have been booked under Sections 223 BNS and 188 BNS.
Sharing details of the operation, DSP (Rural) Karan Sharma stated that police received a tip-off about a drug consignment being smuggled into Punjab from outside the state. Acting on the information, Mamdot police set up checkpoints and spotted a suspicious vehicle. Upon stopping and searching the car, officers discovered a huge cache of intoxicating capsules concealed in the trunk.
During the investigation, police uncovered that the accused were using farmer identification cards to evade police checks and toll tax fees. DSP Karan Sharma revealed that the smugglers used farmers’ association ID cards to pass through police checkpoints without being searched and avoid toll plaza fees.
Further investigation into the drug trafficking network is being conducted by Investigation Officer Sukhdev Singh, as authorities work to dismantle this illegal operation and bring all involved individuals to justice.
