Faridabad (Haryana), June 21, 2025: In a shocking case from Haryana's Faridabad, the decomposed body of a 24-year-old woman was recovered from a 10-foot-deep ditch covered in freshly laid concrete on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Tanu, a native of Shikohabad, Uttar Pradesh, who had been married for less than two years.
The body was discovered buried beneath a section of a public lane near her husband’s residence in Roshan Nagar.Police say the area had been recently excavated for drain construction, and the concrete appeared newly poured. The remains were unearthed using an excavator around 8:00 AM and sent for forensic analysis to determine the cause and timing of death.
Four members of Tanu’s marital family — including her husband Arun, his parents, and a close relative — have been detained in connection with the case.
According to the victim's sister Preeti, Tanu faced both mental and physical abuse soon after her wedding in 2023 She alleged that Tanu’s in-laws continuously harassed her over dowry, demanding cash and gold. “
She returned to our home within months of the marriage because of the abuse,” Preeti told reporters. “She stayed with us for over a year. When we finally sent her back, the mistreatment continued. They even cut off all communication with us.”
The family grew more concerned when, on April 9, Tanu reportedly became unreachable. Her in-laws later claimed on April 23 that she had "run away," further raising suspicions. Preeti said repeated appeals to the police initially went unanswered.
The disturbing recovery of Tanu’s body has now triggered a full-scale investigation.Forensic experts are expected to submit a report soon, while police continue to probe the exact circumstances of her death and alleged cover-up.
The case has sparked outrage in the community, highlighting once again the grim reality of dowry-related violence and the urgent need for stronger legal and societal intervention.
