Breaking: Gunman of IAS Officer accused of firing, one injured

Chandigarh, June 21, 2025 — A tense situation unfolded near PIMS Hospital on Garha Road, Jalandhar, where a gunman deployed for IAS officer Babita Kaler allegedly opened fire, injuring one person. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over construction work taking place on a vacant plot adjacent to Clare's residence.
According to Kaler’s husband, Stephen, he had asked the laborers to speak with the plot owner before continuing the work, which led to a heated argument.He claimed that shortly after the disagreement, a group returned and began physically confronting their gunman, Sukhkaran Singh.
In the scuffle, Stephen alleged that the attackers were also armed, and in an act of self-defense, the gunman fired his weapon.
The bullet struck one individual—identified as Harpreet Singh—in the leg. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Harinder Singh Gill confirmed the incident, stating that the accused gunman, Sukhkaran Singh, has been taken into custody.
He added that the situation arose during an altercation involving people engaged in construction work on the disputed plot. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances and determine any legal action.
