Chandigarh, June 21, 2025 — With the Beas River currently flowing at full capacity, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has issued a public alert warning of potential flood risks.
Officials have urged locals and tourists alike to stay away from riverbanks, especially in the vulnerable Pandoh region, which experienced severe destruction during the 2023 monsoon.
In a special meeting organized by BBMB with local public representatives and community organizations, discussions were held on raising awareness and ensuring public safety in flood-prone areas. The residents of Pandoh Bazaar, in particular, were cautioned due to the area's past history of heavy damage.
BBMB Junior Engineer Er. Ajay Nain announced that siren-equipped vehicles will patrol the highway from Pandoh Dam to Mandi city to alert people — especially tourists — to steer clear of the river.
Additionally, village panchayats with roads leading toward the river have been instructed to exercise extra caution and ensure that locals and visitors remain vigilant.
Citizens have been requested to obey warning signs installed by the administration and avoid rivers and streams during the ongoing monsoon season. People coming from other states have also been advised to strictly follow safety instructions.
During the meeting, several public representatives provided crucial suggestions and highlighted gaps in the current safety infrastructure based on last year’s experience. The BBMB management acknowledged these concerns and assured swift action to address the shortcomings.
As heavy rainfall continues to loom, BBMB’s proactive steps aim to minimize risk and safeguard lives, especially in low-lying and frequently affected regions.
