Trouble Brews in Punjab Congress: Three Senior leaders resign after by-poll defeat

Ludhiana (Punjab), June 25, 2025 – The internal rift within the Punjab Congress has deepened following the Ludhiana West by-election loss. Just hours after Aam Aadmi Party's Sanjeev Arora defeated Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Ashu tendered his resignation as the Working President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, taking moral responsibility for the party’s poor performance.
Adding to the turmoil, two more senior Congress leaders – Jalandhar Cantt. MLA Pargat Singh and former MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon (popularly known as Kikki Dhillon) – have also stepped down from their posts as co-working presidents of the Punjab Congress.
Pargat Singh submitted his resignation from Jalandhar, while Kikki Dhillon, currently in Australia, sent his resignation remotely. Both have addressed their letters to AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal and Punjab in-charge General Secretary Bhupesh Baghel.
