Eight flood control rooms set up to tackle flood-related emergencies

Ludhiana (Punjab), July 1, 2025: With the monsoon season now active in Punjab, the Ludhiana district administration has stepped up its preparedness to handle any flood-related emergencies.
In anticipation of possible disasters, the administration has established eight 24x7 flood control rooms across the district to ensure swift relief and rescue operations. All concerned departments have been put on high alert.
Instructions Issued, Special Monitoring of Vulnerable Areas
Chairing a key meeting at the District Administrative Complex, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rakesh Kumar directed that all flood preparedness measures be completed without delay.He emphasized immediate inspection of riverbanks and vulnerable spots, especially along the Sutlej River, and ordered urgent repairs where needed.
SDMs, Tehsildars, and Naib Tehsildars have been asked to survey and submit detailed reports on flood-prone zones to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Each control room is staffed as per a duty roster to ensure round-the-clock readiness for quick response to emergencies.
Roads, Bridges, and Relief Shelters to Be Readied
The ADC also directed that clogged drains on roads and bridges be cleaned immediately. In addition, potential relief shelters are being identified, including schools, panchayat buildings, and government facilities, where affected people can be temporarily accommodated if needed.
Health and Animal Welfare Departments on Alert
The Health Department, Animal Husbandry, and local civic bodies have been instructed to stock essential medicines, equipment, and resources to respond to any medical or veterinary emergencies during the flood season.
Senior Officials Attend High-Level Preparedness Meeting
The meeting was attended by IAS trainee Dr. Pragati Rani, SDM Ludhiana West Dr. Poonampreet Kaur, SDM Khanna Dr. Baljinder Singh Dhillon, Assistant Commissioner Payal Goel, and other senior officials from various departments.
