Auckland (New Zealand), July 3, 2025: A 27-year-old man, Satnam Singh, is recovering in hospital following a violent assault involving kebab sticks and a rolling pin in what police have described as a serious incident of intentional harm.
The attack reportedly took place inside a commercial kitchen, where Singh alleges he was dragged to a corner and beaten with cooking utensils, leaving him with multiple injuries.
He was later found crawling along a roadside at around 2 a.m., where a local street sweeper, Raymond Tuivatiti, came to his aid.
“He called out, ‘Brother, brother.’ I recognised him from the kebab shop nearby,” Tuivatiti said. “His leg looked twisted, and he was in bad shape—bruises all over and shaking.”
Emergency services were called, and Singh was rushed to Auckland City Hospital, where he underwent surgery. A nightshift water technician, Geck Michaels, who also witnessed the aftermath, described Singh as "partially covered and clearly in distress."
Singh’s flatmate confirmed that he sustained fractures to his leg and finger, along with injuries to his head, hip, and chest. Singh had migrated to New Zealand nearly two years ago on a work visa and remains in stable condition.
Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the assault. Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie of the Waitemata CIB confirmed the suspect has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The arrest followed early morning search warrants carried out by the Waitemata Crime Squad. The accused is expected to appear in the Waitakere District Court on Tuesday, July 8.
