KMSC submits memorandum to DC, SSP ahead of July 14 protest against Powercom privatization
Ferozepur, July 3, 2025: Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab, a delegation led by District President Inderjit Singh Bath and State President Sukhwinder Singh Sabra submitted a memorandum to Powercom SE Dharam Pal, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma, and SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu in Ferozepur. The memorandum pertains to the state-wide protests scheduled for July 14 against the growing moves by the central and Punjab governments to privatize Powercom.
The leaders announced that massive sit-in protests will be held outside Chief SE and Executive Engineer offices across Punjab to oppose privatization efforts. They emphasized that farmers, labourers, youth, and women from Ferozepur district would participate in the protest in large numbers.
Their demands include the repeal of the Electricity Act 2003, filling of nearly 85,000 vacant posts, scrapping the chip meter policy, and safeguarding public institutions from being sold off to private companies at throwaway prices. They said the protest would sound the "bugle of struggle" and launch a large-scale awareness campaign to protect public assets and secure people’s rights.
The leaders noted that village-level mobilization for the protest is growing rapidly, which they believe will force the government to abandon plans to hand over public institutions to corporate houses and end anti-people policies.
