DSGMC President Kalka slams Former President Sarna over alleged takeover of Fatehabad school

New Delhi, July 5, 2025 – In a strong rebuttal, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President S. Harmeet Singh Kalka lashed out at former DSGMC chief Paramjit Singh Sarna for allegedly attempting to bring a DSGMC-managed school and under-construction college in Bighar, Fatehabad (Haryana) under the control of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar, which is reportedly dominated by members of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)—the party Sarna is associated with.
During a press conference at the DSGMC office, Kalka criticized Sarna’s alleged conduct during a recent visit to the Fatehabad premises.
“The way S. Sarna behaved was allegedly that of a hooligan, which is completely unbecoming of a former DSGMC President,” said Kalka. He was joined by DSGMC General Secretary S. Jagdip Singh Kahlon and other office-bearers.
Alleged Illegal Entry and False Claims
Kalka stated that on Thursday, Sarna, accompanied by SGPC task force members and his supporters, allegedly forced their way into the DSGMC-managed campus, which includes a functioning school and a college building still under construction. Sarna then allegedly made false claims that DSGMC had shut down the school.
"This is completely misleading. We are working to revive the school that deteriorated due to the mismanagement during the tenure of previous presidents, including Sarna," Kalka said.
The DSGMC will allegedly initiate legal proceedings and file a police complaint against those involved in the incident.
“If proven, those who trespassed could face criminal charges, and even lose their DSGMC membership,” warned Kalka.
Longstanding Issues and Land Dispute
Providing background, Kalka noted that the school’s foundation was laid in 1996, with a nursery block built in 2000. It was later converted to a primary school with 250 students.
The school was temporarily shut during the COVID-19 pandemic, and DSGMC is now working to encourage admissions from the local population.
He alleged that prior to 2019, nearly 240 out of 287 acres of DSGMC land were leased to private individuals under the oversight of previous committees.
Allegations of Misuse of Funds
Kalka also made serious allegations regarding misuse of Gurdwara funds during Sarna’s presidency.
He claimed that Sarna allegedly favoured close associates and approved the construction of a serai at Lawrence Road, Amritsar, which is nearly 10 km from Sri Darbar Sahib—a move Kalka called impractical and against the interests of pilgrims.
From 1996 to 2018, the DSGMC was led by S. Paramjit Singh Sarna and S. Manjit Singh G.K., whose tenures, Kalka alleged, left a negative legacy for the DSGMC-run schools.
“We are committed to correcting past wrongs and restoring the credibility and pride of our institutions,” Kalka concluded.
