Chandigarh, July 7, 2025 –
In a landmark initiative, Punjab has become the first state in India to offer every household an annual cashless health insurance cover of ₹10 lakh. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal jointly announced the scheme, aimed at revolutionizing healthcare accessibility across the state.
Under this new scheme, all 65 lakh families in Punjab will be entitled to free treatment for all diseases in both government and empanelled private hospitals. The scheme will also extend full coverage to government employees, anganwadi workers, and ASHA workers.
Speaking at the launch event, Chief Minister Mann stated that the scheme will be implemented within the next three months. Every resident of Punjab will receive a "Mukhyamantri Sehat Card," ensuring fully cashless treatment at eligible hospitals across the state.
Kejriwal described the announcement as a “historic day” for over 3 crore residents of Punjab, emphasizing the state’s commitment to universal health coverage.
With this step, Punjab has set a new benchmark in public healthcare, ensuring that financial constraints no longer hinder access to quality medical treatment.
