Two Suspects in Abohar Cloth Merchant Murder Case Killed in Police Encounter

Abohar, July 8, 2025: In a major development in the murder case of Abohar cloth merchant Sanjay Verma, two arrested accused individuals were killed in a police encounter. According to reports, the two suspects, identified as Ram Ratan, son of Ramesh Kumar, and Jaspreet Singh, son of Harpreet Singh from Patiala, were apprehended by the police earlier today.
DIG Ferozepur Range Harmanbir Singh Gill stated that while the police team was taking the suspects to recover weapons, their accomplices, lying in ambush, opened fire on the police party. In retaliatory firing by the police, Ram Ratan and Jaspreet Singh were killed. Senior Constable Maninder Singh was also injured during this encounter. Police recovered several crucial clues from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing, with multiple arrests expected soon.
DIG Gill confirmed the deaths of both suspects but clarified that they were traveling in a car, while the three shooters who had fired at Sanjay Verma remain at large. The police revealed that a total of five individuals were involved in the murder, of whom two were arrested today. During the recovery operation, the suspects attacked the police party, leading to the encounter in which both were killed.
The DIG assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining shooters involved in Sanjay Verma's murder soon. The deceased suspects have been identified as Ram Ratan and Jaspreet Singh.
Earlier today, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab and Fazilka Police had arrested two key accomplices who assisted the assailants in fleeing after the brutal killing of a prominent local businessman.
As per the police, Jaspreet Singh, resident of Mardanpur, and Ram Ratan, resident of Patiala. According to police officials, both played a crucial role in the post-crime escape plan of the shooters.
Special DGP (Law & Order) Punjab visited the crime spot, reviewed the ongoing investigation, and assured the public that no accused will be spared. He said that intensive raids are underway across multiple locations to arrest the main shooters and other co-conspirators involved in the murder.
The case had sparked widespread outrage and protests from the business community and political leaders, who demanded swift justice and stronger law enforcement action.
