Chandigarh, July 12, 2025 — In a significant political gesture, Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh has extended full support to the Punjab government on behalf of the Congress party for the overall betterment of the state.
Speaking in the Vidhan Sabha on Friday, the senior Congress leader backed the government’s resolution rejecting the deployment of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for safeguarding dams and similar infrastructure projects in Punjab.
“I offer full support to the resolution on behalf of myself and my party,” said Rana Gurjeet Singh, asserting that the focus should remain on Punjab's present and future challenges, not on revisiting irrelevant historical disputes.
He stressed the need for constructive debate over current issues, particularly the state's water rights, which he described as essential for Punjab’s agrarian economy.
“Water is the lifeline of Punjab, and we must fight for our rightful share,” he said, reaffirming Congress’s commitment to stand by the government in this cause.
Highlighting Punjab’s strategic and vulnerable geographical position, the legislator urged the Union Government to grant special status to border states — including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat — all of which share boundaries with Pakistan.
He also proposed special financial allocations in the national budget for these states, given their sacrifices and challenges during wartime and border escalations.
“Punjab alone shares a 543-kilometre-long border with Pakistan. Border states have always borne the brunt during wars and tensions and deserve focused attention,” he noted.
