Major drug supply racket busted in Sangrur, 3 accused arrested

Sangrur (Punjab), July 12, 2025 – In a breakthrough under the state’s ongoing "War Against Drugs" campaign, Sangrur Police have busted a drug supply racket and arrested three accused, recovering a significant cache of drugs, firearms, and mobile phones.
The operation was disclosed during a press conference held by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal at the Police Lines, Sangrur.
The police recovered:
- 1.625 kg of heroin (chitta)
- 3 pistols (.32 bore)
- 2 country-made weapons (12 bore)
- 13 live cartridges
- 12 mobile phones
Timeline of Arrests and Recoveries
SSP Chahal revealed that an FIR (No. 69 dated 09.04.2025) was registered under various sections of the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following the initial recovery of 125 grams of heroin, a pistol, cartridges, and mobile phones from the Sadar Dhuri Police Station jurisdiction.
Two suspects – Nigam alias Lucky (24) and Gurpreet Singh alias Bhairon (28), both residents of Sangrur – along with three unidentified individuals, were named in the case. The accused had initially escaped from the spot.
Under the supervision of SP Investigation Davinder Attari and leadership of DSP Detective Daljit Singh Virk, a special team was formed, led by Inspector Sandeep Singh (Incharge, CIA Bahadur Singh Wala) and Inspector Kanwarveer Singh (SHO, Sadar Dhuri).
Accused Already in Jail, Weapons Recovered
- Nigam alias Lucky was arrested via a production warrant from Sangrur District Jail, where he was already lodged in a separate case.
- His interrogation led to the arrest of Jaspal Singh alias Billa (23), from whom two .32 bore pistols were recovered.
- Billa’s further disclosure led to naming Satnam Singh alias Satta (23), also lodged in Sangrur Jail. He was brought on a production warrant and 8 mobile phones smuggled into the jail were recovered from him.
- A new FIR (No. 121 dated 11.07.2025) was registered under Section 52A of the Prisons Act at City-1 Police Station, Sangrur.

On July 11, continued interrogation of Billa led to the seizure of 1.5 kg heroin, another pistol, a country-made weapon, and 6 more live cartridges.
Gurpreet Singh alias Bhairon remains absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him. Police teams continue to investigate connections to broader drug trafficking networks, possibly extending beyond the region.
SSP Chahal reiterated the commitment of Sangrur Police to dismantle drug supply chains and ensure strict legal action against those involved.
