Ferozepur, July 12, 2025: Efforts are being intensified to bring back Amritpal Singh, a young farmer from Ferozepur, who accidentally crossed the Indo-Pakistan border after entering fields close to the barbed wire fencing on June 16, 2025, but failed to return through the official gate or mark his re-entry in the register. Initially, authorities had denied any such incident, but later the Pakistan Rangers confirmed his detention.
The family has also approached the Chief Minister, Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann and BSF authorities in this regard.
The family, accompanied by BJP National Executive Member Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to seek intervention for Amritpal’s return from Pakistan. His father Jugraj Singh explained that his son had gone to work in the fields near the Zero Line and accidentally crossed into Pakistani territory. Since then, the family has been knocking on every door for help.
Governor Kataria assured the family that all possible efforts will be made to secure Amritpal’s return and the matter will also be raised with the Central Government. Flag meetings have been held between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers to address the issue.
Rana Sodhi reiterated his commitment, stating, “We are in continuous touch with the authorities to ensure Amritpal Singh is brought back safely.” He added that the family’s plea has also been raised before senior Union Ministers, and the Central Government has assured to take up the matter seriously.
Others present on the occasion included Anumeet Singh Heera Sodhi, Surjit Singh Butter, and Mikki Dhamija.
