Chandigarh, July 13, 2025 — In a major push to promote sports and steer youth away from drug abuse, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that the state will construct 4,000 modern sports grounds across villages to create a robust sporting culture.
Addressing the media, CM Mann revealed that work on 3,083 grounds has already begun, and these facilities will soon be ready to host young athletes for training and competition.
“We are committed to giving children an environment of sports, not just encouragement but also financial support for their preparation,” he said.
He emphasized that Punjab is rich in sporting talent and all that is needed is opportunity. “We will develop sports nurseries and retain athletes who have represented the country to coach the next generation,” the CM stated.
Highlighting sports as a powerful tool to combat drug addiction, Mann said, “There is no better alternative to drugs than sports. When youth love their bodies, they will automatically stay away from addiction.”
