Fact Check: Viral WhatsApp message promising Rs 46,715 is fake

Chandigarh, July 18, 2025: A message circulating widely on WhatsApp claiming that the Ministry of Finance is offering ₹46,715 as financial assistance to all Indian citizens has been confirmed as a fraudulent scam.
The message urges users to click a link and submit personal information in order to receive the supposed government benefit.
The misleading message reads:
"After taking into consideration the financial crisis experienced by the Indian people, the Ministry of Finance decided to give every citizen an amount of ₹46,715 to reduce the severity of the crisis. Just click on the link & share your personal info to get ₹46,715 from the Govt."
Often decorated with emojis and designed to appear official and urgent, the message is part of a widespread phishing attempt.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has flagged this claim as entirely false and misleading. Through its official handle @PIBFactCheck on X (formerly Twitter), the bureau posted:
“This is a SCAM!
@FinMinIndia has announced NO such scheme.
Don’t click. Don’t share. Don’t fall for it!”
No Such Scheme Exists
There is no official notification or announcement from the Ministry of Finance or any government authority about such a direct cash transfer scheme. Authorities have urged citizens to stay vigilant and not click on unverified links or share personal data based on social media forwards.
