PU to Hold Senate Elections Soon, Says Vice Chancellor Renu Vig; Appeals Students to End Protest

Panjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig on Saturday announced that the university will be initiating the process to conduct Senate elections in accordance with the latest notification issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India on November 7, 2025.
Responding to media queries during the curtain-raiser event of the India International Science Festival (IISF-2025), Prof. Vig said that the university will strictly adhere to the prescribed rules and procedures for holding the elections.
“We have well-defined regulations in the PU Calendar for conducting Senate elections. The University will first write to the office of the Hon’ble Chancellor and Vice President of India seeking formal approval. Once the approval is received, the voters’ list will be prepared and all required formalities will be completed before announcing the election schedule,” the Vice Chancellor explained.
Prof. Vig further stated that the Senate elections would be held soon after the due process is completed and the schedule will be formally notified in accordance with the university norms.
Addressing the ongoing student protest, Prof. Renu Vig said that while the University Administration respects the students’ democratic right to express their views, she appealed to them to end the protest so that academic and administrative activities can continue smoothly.
