Chandigarh, November 21, 2025: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take immediate action against Punjab Police officials, the state government, and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after the Punjab and Haryana High Court declared the arrest of SAD IT Wing head Nashattar Singh Gill as illegal.
Senior Vice President of SAD and former Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, in a rejoinder to the ECI, said that the High Court issued interim orders in CR WP No. 12396-2025 on November 21, holding Gill’s arrest in FIR No. 261 dated November 15 as unlawful and directing his immediate release.
Dr. Cheema stated that the court’s order “vindicates the party’s stand” that the arrests of SAD leaders and workers during the Tarn Taran by-poll were politically motivated and carried out at the behest of the AAP government.
He urged the Election Commission to initiate strict action against all responsible police officers, the Punjab government, and the Aam Aadmi Party for “blatant misuse of power” during the election process.
