Needle by needle, thread by thread, students weave environmental hope at the workshop at Government Senior Secondary School Kot Fatta.
Nestled in Bathinda, Government Senior Secondary School of Kot Fatta opened its doors for the Sew Green Go Green workshop, a collaborative effort between Abhilasha Foundation and the Punjab State Council of Science & Technology, flowing from the Ministry of Environment's broader mission for climate action.
Chief Guest:
Mamta Sethi, the District Education Officer (Secondary), inspired the attendees by providing compelling examples of how a society free from plastic enhances health, wellbeing, and the environment.

Kuldeep Gandhi, President of the Abhilasha Foundation during his speech, he emphasized the foundation’s dedication to environmental education, mentioning that the workshop is a component of a broader initiative to integrate sustainable practices into school curricula.
He encouraged the students to perceive cloth-bag making not merely as a skill but as a pathway to entrepreneurship and community leadership. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the local administration and the school management for their steadfast support.
Rakesh Narula, who serves as the President of Bathinda Vikas Manch, underscored the significant role of youth in promoting sustainable development.
Yog Guru Radhey Sham provided a short message focused on holistic well-being and the principles of environmental stewardship.
A team of six instructors headed by Bimla Devi, which includes Kuldeep Kaur, Angrej Kaur, Sarbjit Kaur, Veerpal Kaur, and another colleague, instructed 64 students (comprising 14 from neighboring villages and 20 from the school Eco-Club) in the processes of measuring, drafting, cutting, and stitching reusable cloth bags using sewing machines.
Student declaration:
The participants declared their intention to discourage the use of plastic bags and foil wraps, advocating for cloth bags and cloth pauna (food wraps) as alternatives. They also promised to engage in door-to-door campaigns in their communities to foster awareness.
Green project:
The students and dignitaries came together to plant saplings in the school’s eco-garden, highlighting the event’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The Principal of PM Shri Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kot Fatta, Dr. Sanjeev Nagpal, conveyed his appreciation to the foundation and all esteemed dignitaries for their roles in ensuring the program's success.
