Ludhiana (Punjab), December 10, 2025: National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan today issued an emotional, sincere and deeply concerned appeal urging Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah to take immediate and decisive action to save Punjab from the devastating grip of drugs.
Grewal wrote on his social media platform X that Punjab is passing through one of the darkest and most painful phases in its history. He said that the drug menace has hollowed out the future of the state and pushed thousands of families into endless grief.
Grewal said it is heartbreaking to witness young boys and even young girls losing their lives every day while the state government appears helpless and directionless.
He said that the AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has completely failed to control the drug problem in Punjab. Grewal said that despite tall promises and loud claims, drugs are freely available in villages and cities, and funerals of young people have become a tragic routine. He said that a government which cannot protect its youth loses its moral authority to govern.
Grewal said that this crisis is not limited to Punjab alone but is a serious national security and social issue that demands strong intervention by the Central Government. He said that with folded hands and full faith, he urges Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi whose leadership has strengthened the nation, and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah whose firm resolve has broken major criminal networks, to once again rise and protect Punjab’s future.
He said that the first urgent step is to completely stop the inflow of drugs into Punjab from neighbouring states. Grewal said this requires strong inter-state coordination with Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
He stressed that joint checkpoints, installation of X-ray scanners, deployment of narcotic detection dogs, and AI-enabled tracking systems must be implemented on a war footing to cut interstate smuggling routes. Grewal said coordinated, team-based operations with neighbouring states are essential so that Punjab is not left alone in this critical battle.
Grewal further stated that enforcement alone is not enough and that rehabilitation must be given equal importance. He said Punjab urgently needs district-level de-addiction and rehabilitation centres that deliver real and effective treatment rather than symbolic activity. Grewal said at least one thousand well-trained and specialised counsellors should be appointed to help addicted youth recover both physically and mentally.
He said that skill development and assured job opportunities must be provided to those who successfully complete de-addiction treatment so they can rebuild their lives with dignity. Grewal also demanded strict regulation of all private rehabilitation centres to ensure that no patient or family is exploited during their most vulnerable moments.
Grewal said that saving Punjab’s youth is not a political issue but a sacred duty towards the nation. He said Punjab has always stood as the sword arm of India, and today that very arm is weakening due to drugs. He expressed complete trust and respect in the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji and said that under their decisive guidance, Punjab can be freed from this curse.
Grewal said history will not forgive silence or delay. He firmly urged the Central Government to act immediately and decisively, before yet another generation of Punjab is lost.
