Chandigarh, December 24, 2025: Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday set specific deadlines for pension-disbursing banks to complete 100 percent registration of state pensioners on the Pensioner Sewa Portal.
Chairing a high-level review meeting with bank officials, the Finance Minister said the registration drive must be completed without delay to ensure pensioners can access services digitally without visiting government offices. He reviewed bank-wise progress and issued timelines based on the number of pending cases with each institution.
Officials informed the meeting that 1,11,233 pensioners have already completed their e-KYC through the portal since its launch and during district-level Sewa Melas. However, the Finance Minister stressed that the pace must be stepped up to cover all remaining beneficiaries.
Cheema directed banks to provide dedicated assistance to elderly pensioners, particularly those facing difficulties with digital procedures. Branch managers were instructed to personally ensure support at the ground level. He warned that lapses, negligence or technical delays at the bank level would invite accountability.
Clarifying concerns, the Finance Minister said pension payments will continue uninterrupted during the registration process and assured that no pensioner will be denied benefits due to procedural delays.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Alok Shekhar, Director Treasury Arvind K. MK, Additional Director Treasury Simarjeet Kaur and senior officials from pension-disbursing banks.
