Sukhi Brar takes over as Chairperson of Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi

Chandigarh, December 24, 2025: Sukhminder Kaur Brar, popularly known as Sukhi Brar (Punjab Kaur), a renowned folk singer and a strong representative of Punjab’s cultural heritage, today formally assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi. Her appointment has been made by the Department of Culture, Chandigarh Administration.
On this occasion, renowned lyricist and presenter Bhatti Bhariwala said that this honour has been conferred upon Sukhi Brar for her unparalleled contribution to the preservation and promotion of the Punjabi language, literature, culture, heritage, and folk traditions.
Sukhi Brar has been continuously serving the Punjabi mother tongue and folk culture for the last 40 years. She is regarded as a living example of rural attire, folk dialects, folk tales, and ancient folk instruments.
On the special occasion of her assuming office, several eminent personalities from the cultural, literary, and film worlds were present to congratulate her.
Those present included Deepak Manmohan, Bai Hardeep, Pammi Bai, Peter Sodhi; film and theatre artists Anita Swadesh, Malkit Rauni, and Gurmeet Singh Jora; personalities from the music and film world including Deepak Vaid, Paramjit Pammi, Rishi Raj Tomar, Satish Awasthi, R.D. Kler, Suresh Goyal, Deepak Batra, Kanwar Jagmohan, and Rajinder Singh Dhiman; and film producers Bajwa Singh, Parminder Jeet Singh, and Sartaj Singh.
