ANTF rings in New Year with major drug bust; Releases impressive 2025 performance report
Ferozepur, January 1, 2026: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Ferozepur Range has started the year on a high note, successfully apprehending a drug smuggler on New Year’s Day. This operation aligns with the ongoing special campaign launched by the Punjab Government to make the state drug-free.
Under the directions of the Special DGP and ADGP (ANTF) Punjab, the ANTF Ferozepur Range, teams intercepted a smuggler involved in the distribution of narcotics. During this New Year's Day operation, authorities recovered 5,500 intoxicating tablets from the accused. Consequently, a legal case (FIR No. 02, dated 01-01-2026) has been registered under Sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act at the ANTF Police Station, Mohali. Investigators expect further disclosures during interrogation, which may lead to more arrests in the smuggling network.
Alongside the recent arrest, Gurinderbir Singh, AIG,ANTF Ferozepur Range released its performance figures for the year 2025, showcasing a massive impact on the local drug trade. Throughout the year, the force registered 69 total cases and successfully recovered a staggering 119 kg and 472 grams of heroin. The crackdown also yielded 6 kg and 510 grams of opium. In terms of synthetic drugs, the agency seized 33,780 loose pills and 300 injections, while further enforcement under the Drug & Cosmetic Act led to the recovery of 3,87,417 banned capsules and 1,32,100 banned tablets.
The ANTF’s efforts extended beyond physical seizures to target the financial infrastructure of drug trafficking. In 2025, the force recovered ₹21,15,000 (Twenty-one lakh, fifteen thousand) in drug money. Furthermore, significant action was taken through property freezing in five specific cases, totaling an estimated value of ₹1,60,67,000 (One crore, sixty lakh, sixty-seven thousand). The operations also removed dangerous weapons from the streets, resulting in the seizure of two pistols and three magazines. The Punjab Government and the ANTF remain fully committed to eradicating the drug menace from its roots to ensure a safe environment for all citizens.
