BC (Canada) Cabinet Minister Jagrup Brar receives warm welcome from Punjab leadership in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, January 1, 2026:Jagrup Singh Brar, Cabinet Minister in the Government of British Columbia (Canada) and a six-time NDP MLA from Surrey–Fleetwood, was accorded a warm and cordial welcome by leaders cutting across party lines during his visit to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on December 30, 2025. Mr. Brar is currently in Punjab on a personal visit.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann received Jagrup Brar in his office at the Vidhan Sabha and extended a warm welcome. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also greeted the visiting minister and lauded his achievements in Canadian public life.

Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, AAP Minister Aman Arora, AAP MLAs Chetna Singh Jaure Majra and Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra, senior Congress MLA Pargat Singh, and AAP leader Manjit Sidhu, among other prominent leaders, were present on the occasion.
During the visit, Jagrup Brar witnessed the proceedings of a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha from the visitors’ gallery. When the Speaker formally acknowledged his presence in the House, members across party lines welcomed him by thumping desks—marking a notable and rare moment during his Punjab visit.

Informal interactions between Brar and Punjab leaders focused on exploring future possibilities for strengthening cooperation between Punjab and British Columbia. Discussions centred on enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual interest and shared priorities.
Jagrup Singh Brar hails from Deon village in Bathinda district. Despite holding key ministerial responsibilities in British Columbia, he has remained closely connected with his village and motherland, reflecting his continued emotional and cultural ties with Punjab.
