Namdhari martyrs’ sacrifice a pillar of India’s freedom struggle: Hardeep Mundian

Malerkotla (Punjab), January 17, 2026:Punjab Cabinet Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian on Friday said that the supreme sacrifices made by the Namdhari sect for India’s freedom, protection of faith and upholding of human values will forever remain etched in golden letters in the annals of Indian history.
He was addressing a state-level martyrdom function held at the Namdhari Shaheedi Memorial, Malerkotla, to commemorate the 66 Namdhari martyrs.
Highlighting the historical role of the Namdhari sect, the Cabinet Minister said it stands as a living symbol of simplicity, truthfulness, humility and sacrifice.
He said the spiritual and social path shown by Sri Satguru Ram Singh Ji provided a decisive direction to India’s freedom movement and ignited resistance against British rule from the sacred land of Malerkotla.
Mundian said the bravery and sacrifices of the 66 Namdhari martyr Singhs transcended religious boundaries and laid a strong foundation for the national struggle for independence.
He added that their martyrdom continues to inspire present and future generations to walk the path of truth, integrity and dedicated service to the nation.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government, Mundian said the government would carry out every responsibility entrusted to it with humility and dedication.
He urged the sangat to follow the ideals and teachings of the Gurus and the Namdhari sect, and to contribute actively towards building a vibrant and progressive Rangla Punjab.
The martyrdom function was organised under the patronage of Sri Satguru Uday Singh Ji. MLA Amargarh Prof. Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra and Namdhari Surinder Singh also addressed the gathering. The sangat paid floral tributes to the 66 Namdhari martyrs and pledged to uphold their ideals.
Among those present on the occasion were MLA Dr. Jameel Ur Rahman, MLA Samrala Jagtar Singh Dialpura, Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tirkey, SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, ADC Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SP Satpal Sharma and SDM Gurmeet Kumar Bansal.
