Gurdaspur (Punjab), January 28, 2026: Panic gripped Dera Baba Nanak town in Gurdaspur district on Tuesday morning after unidentified assailants opened fire on a medical store owner, killing him on the spot and fleeing the scene. The incident occurred in the inner market area of the town.
According to information, the victim, identified as Randeep Singh, owner of Bedi Medical Store, was on his way to open his shop as usual in the morning when he was shot outside the premises.
He sustained critical bullet injuries and was rushed towards Amritsar for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Notably, this is not the first attack on the medical store owner. On October 23, 2024, the same shop had come under attack when masked men opened fire and escaped. Randeep Singh was seriously injured in that incident as well.
On receiving information, SSP Batala Dr. Mehtab Singh reached the spot along with senior police officials.
Speaking to the media, he said that four rounds were fired, resulting in the death of the medical store owner. He added that while an extortion-related case was registered in 2024, no such extortion calls have been reported recently.
The police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation from multiple angles. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
Police officials have assured that the perpetrators will be nabbed soon and strict action will be taken.
