Punjab releases Rs 3,806 crore under Old Age Pension Scheme
Over 23.62 Lakh Seniors Receive ₹1,500 Monthly

Chandigarh, February 11, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, the Punjab Government has released over ₹3,806 crore under the Old Age Pension Scheme during the financial year 2025–26 up to January, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced on Wednesday.
Highlighting the government’s vision of “Our Elders, Our Pride,” Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, senior citizens are being treated as the state’s living heritage and valued pillars of society.
She stated that more than 23.62 lakh eligible elderly beneficiaries across Punjab are receiving a monthly pension of ₹1,500, ensuring financial security and dignity in their daily lives.
The Minister informed that a budgetary provision of ₹4,100 crore has been earmarked for the scheme to guarantee timely and transparent disbursement of pensions. She emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that no eligible beneficiary faces inconvenience in receiving financial assistance.
Issuing strict instructions to officials, Dr. Baljit Kaur made it clear that any delay or negligence in pension distribution would not be tolerated. She warned that strict action would be taken against erring officials as per established rules.
Underscoring the broader objective, the Cabinet Minister said senior citizens are custodians of Punjab’s social heritage, wisdom, and values. Ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being is central to the government’s vision of building a “Rangla Punjab.” She reaffirmed that the state government remains determined to support elderly citizens so they can live their later years with security, respect, and peace of mind.
