Chandigarh, February 17, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday took a strict view of the security arrangements for senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and directed the Centre and the Punjab Government to conduct a fresh assessment of the threat to his life.
During the hearing, the Court questioned the Punjab Government on whether any updated threat perception analysis had been carried out after Majithia’s release from jail. When the State failed to provide a clear response, the Bench expressed dissatisfaction and sought concrete information.
The Punjab Government informed the Court that 15 police personnel are presently deployed for Majithia’s security. However, the Court asked the State to clarify the extent of danger he faces and whether the existing security cover is adequate.
In strong remarks, the Court directed that a comprehensive report be prepared by the Punjab Chief Secretary in coordination with the Director General of Police. Both the Central and State Governments have been ordered to submit a detailed ‘threat perception’ report in a sealed cover at the next hearing. The Court also observed that Majithia should be informed, in a sealed envelope, about the level of threat to his life.
The High Court made it clear that until the fresh assessment is completed, there must be no lapse or negligence in ensuring Majithia’s security.
The matter is now listed for further hearing on March 6, 2026.
